Sabbath
Dear Church,
Sabbath is one old religious word. For Christians, it can be a guide post, reminding us to pause from our work for rest and renewal. We learn about Sabbath as the day of rest that God enacted after creating all the things. This opens up curiosity for us all as we ask, Does God need rest?
No matter your interpretation of the Genesis creation story, it is good for humans to pause from work, rest from creating, and sleep. In our capitalistic society, we are hard-wired to work without stopping. Resting, sleeping, and quiet pondering without noticeable action, are bumped down our priority lists because we don’t get rewards, bonuses, or increased salaries by sleeping. Or, at least that is what every boss I ever had told me.
We make a habit of resting when we are sick enough to deserve it.
Sickness should not be the guide post for regular rest. Being human is deserving enough. Being a parent is enough. Being a teenager is enough. Being an employer/employee is enough. Time for rest, everybody.
What permission do you need to take Sabbath rest?
This Sunday, our staff will be taking a rest from creating a church service experience.
No church service this Sunday, July 3. We love having church with you! And, we will be better able to listen, create and encourage you all after our own Sabbath rest time.
Neighborhood Church service will be in-person again on Sunday, July 10 at 10 am.
Rest up!
