Summary
Dear Neighborhood Church,
On behalf of the Minnesota Immigrant Movement (MIM), Jovita, Kay, Angelica, and I, I want to say THANK YOU for allowing us to speak at your church. You blessed our hearts and were a balm to our souls. This work of telling our stories and letting folks know about the issues is often met with opposition and disdain. But your caring, open hearts were such an encouragement for us to keep on.
We went to Pedro’s after church and a wonderful, wonderful person paid for our entire meal. It was such a delightful surprise and uplifted us even more. Thank you to this kind soul.
It is an urgent matter that you take a quick five minutes now to write to your legislators. Below (after my signature) is a list of the ones in your area. If you do not know what district you are in, please look it up first, as the legislators want to hear directly from their own constituents. You can find your state legislators here: https://www.gis.lcc.mn.gov/iMaps/districts/
The bills we are asking our state legislators to support are HF 4 in the House and SF 27 in the Senate. If you hear from your legislator that they are for or against the bill, please email to let me know. We are keeping track of these responses. My email is [email protected] . Unfortunately, some legislators have fabricated some narratives that do not truly represent the situation. And we can answer any of your questions as they come along.
If you are in District 3 and willing to meet with Senator Hauschild and us via Zoom, we have a meeting in the works and would love for you to join us. Please still email him right away to express your support. This link will give you talking points and facts about the bill. https://www.ilcm.org/latest-news/fact-sheet-drivers-licenses-for-all-2/ But, you don’t have to be elaborate in your email. You can say something along the lines of, “I support the Driver’s License for All legislation and I’m asking you to support it too.”
You can follow every step of this legislation on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100067390212148
And please pray for us too. The next committee it needs to pass is the House Ways and Means Committee. And we will update our page with the outcomes.
Lastly, regarding donating to our cause– because we are a grassroots movement, we each take turns collecting funds and as a group, we distribute them to our folks who cannot afford gas but still come to the Capitol and all our planning meetings. Some of them are missing hours from work and we try to compensate them the little we can, so that their activism doesn’t affect their families too much. Any love offerings that you would like to send will go directly to cover these costs of gas and missing work. You can send funds to my paypal and I will make sure that Jovita gets them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jovita or me. Our emails are below. Saying thank you does not express how much your friendliness and your eagerness to love your neighbors touched our hearts. Many blessings to you!
Sincerely,
Melissa Carey and Jovita Morales
